Your Small Business Saturday Shopping List

I get it. Not everyone on your Christmas list wants a leather notebook under the tree.

(Too bad, but... I understand. ;-) )

I've racked my brain for gift ideas myself, and it's HARD, so I've curated a list of some of my favorite small businesses to help you fill in the holes in your list with a bit more ease. Enjoy!

Small Businesses I Recommend You Try:

The Ink Road: If you're after adorable (and sparkly) stickers, paper, and other ephemera for your planner, scrapbook, or journal, Lara's shop is THE place to be. (She got one of the very first State Lines traveler's notebooks in-- what else-- hot pink and shiny gold!) Be sure to hop on her email list for early access to special products and sales.

RhMohler: My new friend Rachel paints the tiniest art that you can imagine, and she also makes delightful monkey fist bookmarksI love mine: it lives in the leather notebook that I use as a planner!

The Lush Collection: If you're one who's sensitive to artificial aromas and funky ingredients, check out Melissa's naturally scented candles and body care items. I can tell you firsthand that the candles smell DIVINE.

Red Stick Quilt Shop: Rachel and her team provide hands-down the best customer service along with top-quality fabrics and notions. If you sew or quilt, you owe it to yourself to check out their extensive inventory and beautiful colors.

The ReHaberdashery: My friend Allison creates one-of-a-kind bow ties and baby bibs from repurposed and vintage materials. She made this epic SuperBaby bib for a special new little boy!

JA Photography & Design: Jenn travels the country and world capturing shapes with her camera that just happen to form the letters of the alphabet. Create unique art to spell a surname (wouldn't that make a great wedding gift?) or any word that's meaningful to you.

Scratchy Pixel: Jenny's hand-drawn chicks and bees are inspired by her rural homestead and adorn invitations, planners, and clip art. I especially love this Christmas card design.

Lora's Weighted Blankets: If you love that feeling of being tucked under a heavy pile of covers, even when there's not a blizzard outside, you should check out these blankets and lap pads. They could be especially helpful when facing anxiety or hyperactivity, and Lora's written a free ebook to uncover some of the mysteries about their effects.

The Arrow and Song: Sarah's jewelry and loose stones are some of the most striking I've seen. If you're looking for a special and beautiful gift, look no further than her metalwork.

Beeyoutiful: It seems only right to include here the lovely small business that's my day job! If you're interested in affordable, quality nutritional supplements, essential oils, herbs, and other healthy products, look no further than one of very few companies around that's committed to 100% full disclosure (no hidden ingredients, EVER!). Get 2016 off on the right foot with our new Baby Steps to Better Health email series.

The Custom Stitch: My dear friend Shannan designs, sews, and monograms bags and other fabric items. She knows I am a sucker for British TV, so she surprised me with a Downton Abbey-inspired bag!

Sons and Heirs Art Co.: Hope's art has a sweet, delicate touch, and her hand-lettered name plate made a perfect gift for a friend's tiny daughter.

Fair Fit: Andrea is one of my favorite small business owners. Not only is she a talented fashion designer (my pair of Fair Fit dresses are my go-to party outfits!), but she's got a ton of business savvy, too, and I'm enjoying learning from her. (Bonus tidbit: once upon a time, Andrea assisted me in drafting my Retro Ripple Apron sewing pattern!)

Red Stick Spice Company: Anne is one of the kindest and most generous shopkeepers I've had the pleasure to support, and she knows her flavors like no one else. You must, must, MUST try the Durango smoked salt, and the Bayou Lafourche blend is my go-to for seasoning delicious pork chops and fish.

Sara Roberts Jones, Author: The Fellowship was an important book for me to read. (I got to proofread it, too! I'm not called Miss Red Pen for nothing!) If you are interested in a book with a strong female lead who grows in courage and increasing wholeness and freedom over the course of the story, you'll enjoy this novel. If you've experienced or are curious about authoritarian, high-demand religious environments (such as espoused by reality TV's favorite super-large family), you will find the story even more compelling.

And, of course, I'd love it if you'd shop at RedPenTravelers.com for custom leather notebooks, or take a peek at my Etsy shop for ready-to-ship items. I've got super deals going this weekend to help you get the perfect gift for everyone on your list!

It's a big deal when you shop small for your holiday gifting.

When you support business owners like us with your purchases, you're not helping a CEO buy another yacht or jet off to exotic locales.

You're helping ordinary people like us do important things like have babies, pay off student loans, fund adoptions, and send children to ballet lessons.

Me? Your purchases are helping me save to move closer to family and buy our first house. It means a lot, and I thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

With a grateful spirit,

Toni
